Are you ready for Solas rules

From 1st July 2016 all shipping container leaving from any port must be accompanied by a shipping document signed either electronically or in hard copy by the shipper.

Which means on the documents you must have the follwoing information.

  • Container loading weight (normal weight ticket)
  • Gross/Tare container weight (this can be found on the back doors)
  • Number of items in container ( count bales/ bags / pallets)
  • Container number
  • Seal number

Ocean carriers and container terminal operators will be legally obliged to ensure that containers without a VGM are not loaded on to a ship in all 162 IMO member states that are required to enforce the new law.

The July directive is intended to prevent serious accidents at sea where a ship’s stability is compromised by wrongly declared cargo weight.

The shipper is responsible for providing the verified weight by stating it in the shipping document and submitting it to the master or his representative and to the terminal representative sufficiently in advance to be used in the preparation of the ship stowage plan.

Kingsnorth waste management does a full audit for container loading with full pictures of stock and documents which can be view anytime.
